yup ... ther are lots of sensors around, but the new sensor I linked will finally be able to identify any (!) substances (by identifying molecules & combinations from weight) - it's not that specialized, it's like with camera sensors & microprocessors, the more elements you put together, the better the resolution will be - it could be used for water quality diagnosis as well as for air pollution, explosives detection or disease diagnosis, etc. ... just everything, same like dogs and other animals are 'utilized' for smelling & tasting stuff ... ie. many unis all around the globe already experimented with artificial 'dog' noses that can not just identify drugs or exlosives, but even certain forms of cancer [link] but that's still big & heavy experimental cabinets, wheras these new sensors will make it finally cheap like an iPod = a universal diagnosis tool for everyone ;-)

... just to mention, if you wanna know what will change the entire world more drastically than anything else, check this [link] ... it works like a camera sensor, but instead of light, it's measuring molecules = it can somehow 'smell & taste', but even more, because combined with a universal substances fingerprint database, it can identify anything substancial down to one single molecule, so finally even help diagnose diseases, or identify stuff (ie. potentially dangerous, like polluted air & water, but even people by their smell, anything you can imagine) within a second, or two :faint:

:pat: see ... 'fingerprint' nowadays is just a synonym for every unique structure (sample) you can (digitally) store & (automatically) compare to identify something you already identified before, it all started with submarines, where they analysed & visualized the unique sound of ships to identify the model without seeing them (= passive fingerprinting), or even send an acoustic 'ping' and analyse the reflection (active fingerprinting) - nowadays it's the basis of almost every technology = you have a sensor that analyses things, and a database of knowledge, and you compare it to what you detect(ed), same with hacking, browsing habits (your traces in the internet), voice identification & face recognition, social habits, etc. ... it's all called 'fingerprint' :sherlock:

Ah.. I remember the feeling of wanting something like C1-94 or one of the C1-1xx scopes back in the days. Never got one myself though, as it often happens. Though at some point I got a bit of use out of the ancient C1-4, a real tube monster, with maaad precision, not! :D It needed around 15 minute warm-up to show anything remotely sensible, hehe.

Naah, the kids these days don't get much of the right stuff anymore. Of course, having some state of the art Rohde n Schwarz or Agilent or somesuch would surely be a useful thing, but.. you know. :D

Thanks for the nostalgie moment! :)

... I modified it a bit (BNC-Inputs etc.), it was btw not just a really cheap offer back then (ok for tv & radio repair), it's just pretty small & lightweight (!) compared to the fat & heavy pro stuff, that's why I chose it :peace::granny:
